Slowly rotating two–fluid neutron star model

چکیده
We study stationary axisymmetric configurations of a star model consisting of two barotropic fluids, which are uniformly rotating at two different rotation rates. Analytic approximate solutions in the limit of slow rotation are obtained with the classical method of Chandrasekhar, which consists of an expansion of the solution in terms of the rotation rate, and which is generalized to the case of two fluids in order to apply it to the present problem. This work has a direct application to neutron star models, in which the neutron superfluid can rotate at a different speed than the fluid of charged components. Two cases are considered, the case of two non–interacting fluids, and the case of an interaction of a special type, corresponding to the vortices of the neutron superfluid being completely pinned to the second fluid. The special case of the equation of state P ∝ ρ2 is solved explicitly as an illustration of the foregoing results.

R-modes of neutron stars with a solid crust
We investigate the properties of r-mode oscillations of a slowly rotating neutron star with a solid crust, by taking account of the effects of the Coriolis force. For the modal analysis we employ three-component neutron star models that are composed of a fluid core, a solid crust and a surface fluid ocean. For the three-component models, we find that there exist two kinds of r-modes, that is, t...
متن کاملSlowly rotating superfluid Newtonian neutron star model with entrainment
We develop a formalism that can be used to model slowly rotating superfluid Newtonian neutron stars. A simple two-fluid model is used to describe the matter, where one fluid consists of the superfluid neutrons that are believed to exist in the inner crust and core of mature neutron stars, while the other fluid is a charge neutral conglomerate of the remaining constituents (crust nuclei, core su...
متن کاملRelativistic mean field model for entrainment in general relativistic superfluid neutron stars
General relativistic superfluid neutron stars have a significantly more intricate dynamics than their ordinary fluid counterparts. Superfluidity allows different superfluid ~and superconducting! species of particles to have independent fluid flows, a consequence of which is that the fluid equations of motion contain as many fluid element velocities as superfluid species. Whenever the particles ...
متن کاملOn the dynamics of superfluid neutron star cores
We discuss the nature of the various modes of pulsation of superfluid neutron stars using comparatively simple Newtonian models and the Cowling approximation. The matter in these stars is described in terms of a two-fluid model, where one fluid is the neutron superfluid, which is believed to exist in the core and inner crust of mature neutron stars, and the other fluid represents a conglomerate...
متن کاملLagrangian perturbation theory of nonrelativistic rotating superfluid stars
We develop a Lagrangian perturbation framework for rotating non-relativistic superfluid neutron stars. This leads to the first generalization of classic work on the stability properties of rotating stars to models which account for the presence of potentially weakly coupled superfluid components. Our analysis is based on the standard two-fluid model expected to be relevant for the conditions th...
